Artist's Block

Fri Mar 6, 2009, 12:56 AM
I think I have artist's block.
Help!
Anyone out there who's got tips how to perform CPR on a blocked artist?

In addition, I had a mole removed on my leg. It stings all the time now, I didn't sleep well at all.
Hopefully this will be the last of the things that were bothering me in the past 12 months. Chipped wrist bone, deviated septum, melanoma,...

  • Mood: Miserable
  • Listening to: humming laptop
  • Reading: stuff on the screen
  • Eating: strawberries, apple, sunflower seeds, plain yoghurt
  • Drinking: not enough water

Put a good DVD on or some nice music, get some paper and a pencil then let your mind wander in scribbles, something will click or you'll get the spark of inspiration ;-)

Well - going camping for a night or two works for me...
(maybe not a practical option in Germany in March, though).
Dunno - go for a walk, go ice skating, go skiing...

You want some of my inspiration? I haven't got time to paint all the stuff that's been crowding into my head for the last few months. :(

Still Frodo the wanderer from the Shire would walk there, upon the grass among elanor and niphredil in fair Lothlorien.

look at some nice pictures of nature photos on flickr or even Deviant. Go for a stroll...
What works for me is usually opening a book of my favorite painter : Frazetta, so if you too have a favorite (or more) artist skim through theirs works and maybe inspiration will come.

Or if you have time, read a good book. That also usually works for me. ;)

I find it hard to prioritize. I should be reading lots of articles for my thesis right now, so I am reluctant to dive into a fiction book, or even attempt painting. I need to find the right balance...

Go to your local university and sit in on a series of lectures, you will either fall asleep or fill your pad with interesting doodles.

I'm a little joking but you could try it. Sit in the back.

Hahaha! You are right, that has so far worked best indeed. It's just that I have trained myself to not give in to the urge of drawing cause if I can't study art, then I need to at least try being good at what I am studying now.
As soon as I've written my BA thesis, I'll un-train myself. ;-)
